The garden does not pretend to be botanical or to preserve different species. It evokes (through plants) the traditions, beliefs, and lifestyle of Mr Guichard de Musinens and his wife Matel, “founders” of the fortified manor house.

Self guided tours:

INDIVIDUALS: 4 free guided tours will be offered in 2011 : in May, June, August and September .

- 15 persons maximum
- Fee: €30

This fortified military structure was built on the mountain slope to control the Ecluse defile. This site offers vestiges of military architecture from several centuries (towers, watch turrets, embrasures, watchtowers, pillboxes, ammunition rooms...).

INDUSTRY

Sidefage

The Sidéfage (union of inter-municipalities) manages the recycling facility for household and similar domestic waste.

GROUPS:
- Tour of the entire incineration plant, from the pit and the control room to the turbine generators and the area for the maturation of cinders.
- By appointment only.

ACTIVITIES:
- For schools: numerous activities are organized on a regular basis
- For the general public: public meetings, exhibitions, and tours of waste collection sites, sorting centers and the incineration plant of Bellegarde-sur-Valserine.

GASTRONOMY - CHEESES

The Abbey Cheese Factory

The bleu de gex of Abbey factory
The bleu de gex of Abbey factory

The Abbey factory is one of the four remaining cheese factories to make the Bleu de Gex (1st AOC raw cow milk cheese recognized nationally).

To discover the various stages of manufacturing, the factory offers observation windows and audio-visual materials.

INDIVIDUALS:
- All year round from 9am to 11am
- Free self guided tours.

GROUPS :
- By appointment only
- Fee: €1.60 per person including the product sampling at the end of the tour.

The Apiaries of the Valserine

In Montanges, Jocelyne and Bernard Moyne provide the opportunity to witness honey collectioning in their beekeeping operation. Tours end with a sampling of the apiaries' products.
